‘ PETROL FOR E.P.S. CARS. WELLINGTON, January 23. In the course of a statement outlining the arrangements for the sup - ply ol petrol to cars that will be needed by E.P.S. organisations throughout the Dominion, in the event of an emergency, Mr. seinpie said that two-gallon sealed tins ol petrol will be delivered to owners o± cars selected for use, to enable the cars to be driven to the source ol main supply, which will be made available through the use of special blue coupons marked “emergency coupon.” These coupons . will be distributed by the chairmen of E.P.S. organisations. Each seitice would have a depot where coupons could be delivered to a man called our for a job. Arrangements are being made to keep the batteries of the cars concertied charged. INVERCARGILL E.P.S. INVERCARGILL, Jan. 22. Complete confidence in Mr. El. J. Macalister as controller of the Invercargill Emergency Precautions Services was expressed by the Invercargill City Council at a special emergency meeting held at noon to-day to consider his resignation. The council also unanimously decided to. ask-Mr. Macalister to reconsider his resignation. , , ~ . Mr. Macalister announced this evening that he had decided to withdraw his resignation and carry on as Chief Controller. To-day an earlier meeting of controllers and deputy controllers of the Emergency Precautions Services was held, and a resolution adopted expressing surprise at the city council’s resolution (which said that too much control was vested in persons not councillors) and adding ‘chat the present efficiency of the scheme is to a large extent the result of the action taken by Mr. Macalister to co-ordinate the activities of the scheme as a whole. Notice of motion has been given to rescind the resolution passed’ by the council on Tuesday night. MAORIS ANDTERRITORIaLS HASTINGS, January 22. The Prime Minister announced, today, the personnel of the Rehabilitation Council, which under the Act passed last session, will make provision for the re-establishment in civil life, of those who have served in His Majesty's armed forces, and also the reconstitute nofw ar-time industries on a peace-time basis. Before constituting the Council, the Government invited nominations from association.'-, representative of discharged servicemen and employers and employees in primary and secondary industries. The Act makes it clear, however, that no person shall be appointed to the Council, as a direct representative of any particular organisation. N.Z. ARMOURED CORPS. WELLINGTON, January 22. The formation of the New Zealand Armoured Corps is announced in tonight’s Gazette. The existing designation of regiments of the New Zealand Mounted Rilles are abolished and the units redesignated as under:.— Canterbury Yeomanry Cavalry will be the Ist Light Armoured Fighting Vehicle Regiment, the Queen Alexandra’s (Wellington-West Coast) Mounted Rifles will be the 2nd, the Auckland (East Coast) Mounted Rifles will be the 3rd, the Waikato Mounted Rifles Ihe 4th, the Otago Mounted Rifles the sth. the Manawatu Mounted Rifles the 6th, tn? Wellington-East Coast Mounted Rifles the 9th, the Nelson-Marlbor-ough Mounted Rifles the 10th, and the North Auckland Mounted Rifles {he 11111 respectively. AIR STAFF APPOINTMENTS. WELLINGTON, January 22. A Gazette published to-night notifies that Croup Captain Artlnrr de Terrotfe Neville relinquishes his mi-pointmc-nl; as Air force Member lor Supply, and is appointed Deputy Chief of the Air Staff and remnm:-, a member of the Air Board. Wing Commander Francis Ernie Theodore Hewlett is appointed to succeed Group Captain Neville as Air Force Member for. Supply, with membership on the A.ir Board.

ARMY APPOINTMENTS WELLINGTON, January 22. The following military appointments and promotions appear in tonight’s Gazette. — Lieutenant-Colonel H. G. Wilding, D. 5.0., is appointed to the Bth Brigade Group from the Reserve of Officers. Major J. F. Potter, commanding the 3rd Light Armoured Fighting Vehicle Regiment (Auckland-East Coast Mounted Rifles), is granted the temporary rank oflieutenant-colonel. Major W. Murphy, New Zealand Staff Corps, is appointed Commanding Officer of the 35th infantry (Mixed) Battalion, and granted the temporary rank of lieutenant-colonel whilst holding the appointment. Major J. W. Barry, New Zealand Staff Corps, is appointed Commanding Officer of the 36th (Mixed) Infantry Battalion and is granted the temporary rank of lieutenant-colonel whilst holding the appointment. Major A. H. L. Sugden, Now Zealand Staff Corps, is appointed Commanding Officer of the 37th Infantry (Mixed) Battalion, and granted the temporary rank of lieutenant-colonel whilst holding the appointment. Captain (Temporary Major) T. H. Pettit, commanding the 9th Field Ambulance, relinquishes the rank of temporary major and is granted the temporary rank of lieutenant-colonel whilst so employed. Captain (Temporary Major) D. M. Mitchell ceases to be posted to the 2nd Field Ambulance, and is appointed to command the 10th Field Ambulance, with the temporary rank of lieutenant-colonel. Lieutenant-Colonel C. E. Kerens, New Zealand Medical Corps, is appointed officer commanding the 11th Field Ambulance (0.U.M.C.), in addition to his appointment of officer commanding the Otago University Medical Company.
