RACING ANDJTROTTING MEETINGS TO COMB July 19— Manawatu. July 19—Waimate. July 26—South Canterbury. July 26—Rangitikei. August 2 —Christchurch. August 12, 14, 16—Canterbury. August 23—Pakuranga. August 28—Egmont-Wanganui. August 30—Taranaki. Death of Cape Horn; A disastrous fire at Papamoa, near Rotorua, resulted in the thoroughbred entire Cape Horn, being burnt to death. Unlucky: Cyprine was probably a “good thing” beaten in the novice event at Hastings, and many good judges will be astray in their judgment if she does not open her account at short notice. In the North: Chary, who promised well as a youngster is now in the stable of A. C. Jones at Te Rapa. Jones trains Gay Rosette, who has been a good winner this season. Shaping Well: Cheddington was a brilliant two-year-old, but has not raced since, owing to recurring soreness. He is reported to be shaping up well for P. Atkins, and his first appearance for his new mentor will be awaited with interest. Sold Again: Pirate’s Last, who was purchased by Mr. H. Stafford only last Christmas, has been sx>ld again, and is now in the stable of J. Behrns at Ashburton. Behrns did well with Peggotty. He has a promising five-year-old sister to Statuette in his hands in the Wrack mare, Keewah. Streamline Out: Mr. J. H. Grigg had ill-luck with his two horses, Streamline and Arctic Dawn. The former has not done as well as expected since his mishap on the tracks 10 days ago, and Arctic Dawn showed signs of soreness after working on Tuesday morning, evidently due to ricking himself. Mr. Grigg inspected both horses yesterday, and promptly decided to withdraw them from all their engagements at the Grand National Steeplechase meeting. They were withdrawn at 2.18 p.m. yesterday. Suspension Reduced: The Australian Jockey Club 7 s Committee reduced the suspension of the Victorian jockey, H. Badger, so that it expired on July 4. Badger was suspended on May 12 for two months, having been found responsible by the Australian Jockey Club stewards for the fall of Dollar in the Sydney Cup on April 14, when that horse was killed, and the apprentice, V. Thompson, injured and taken to hospital. In reducing the suspension, the committee took into account the expense in which Badger was involved in having to return to Sydney from Melbourne to attend the adjourned enquiry at which he was suspended. Reduction of Badger’s suspension enabled him to ride at the V.PJ.C. Grand National meeting.
