MAWHERA RACING CLUB

The following rules have been adopted for the Club's Grand Derby meeting to be held in Mackay Street on Saturday morning. The first event starts at 10.30: — In the interests of the racing public, penalty of 10/- will be enforced if horse or driver “scratches. Coirupt practices include: —1. Misbehaviour at the barrier, or in saddling paddock. Kicking over traces —’capital” offence. 2. Beating the gun—or “beating up” the judge. 3. Running after “fillifs” whilst fulfilling or about to fulfil an engagement. .4. Bribing officials, running dead or fixing” a race. Note: (a) If the horse refuses to stop after passing the finishing post, the driver may not shoot him. He may, however, if he wishes, get him “half shot”—after the race, (b) Keep clear of another sulky. Some of the horses “bite.” (c) Horses wear sandshoes. Give better grip. (d) The carts are the only sulkies. Horses and drivers may have an interest in the race without penalty. (e) Drivers and horses will parade on course and run preliminaries as directed by the clerk of the course. All competitors to be ready half-an-hour before race starts. Horses and drivers return to saddling paddock at Town Hall after the race. Drivers and horses’ room at Town Hall foi changing into colours. _ ... Offenders violating the Rules will be apprehended by the “Stipe and his trusties. Dividend declared on winner only.
