Discussing the decision to permit the export of baconers in stock up to April 12, Mr. C. Hausmann, president of the New Zealand Association of Bacon Curers, said that the annual meeting in Christchurch passed a resolution requesting the Minister for Marketing (Mr. Barclay) to announce immediately the lifting of the weight of porker killings after June 30 to 1201 b for export. This, he said, was desirable, as porkers to this weight would, be accepted by the United Kingdom to the extent of shipping space available, and would greatly facilitate the conversion if necessary of pigs to baconer weights in the Spring, when there was every indication that carcases of baconer weights would be in short supply for local consumption.
