R.A.F. IN MIDDLE EAST RUGBY, May 22. Widespread R.A.F. activities aie reported in an R.A.F. Middle East communique, issued on Thursday, which states: “Fighter aircraft of the R.A.F. and S.A.A.F., successfully atI tacked motor transport convoys in the Capuzzo area, yesterday. Many lorries were destroyed, and others were damaged. Other aircraft bombed a camp and gun positions in the same area. “During the previous night, targets near Barce were bombed. “During the night of May 20-21, our bombers made a heavy and successful attack on German-occupied aerodromes in Greece. At Eleuis, bombs were seen to burst among aircraft on the ground, and a fire was started. At Menidi, the results were not observed. “Malta was bombed yesterday, and slight damage was caused to Service property. “Yesterday, aircraft of a Free French flight bombed and machinegunned enemy troops on the road near Chelga. On May 20, attacks were made on Debarech, where bombs fell among a convoy and buildings, and at Mendi a camp was bombed. On the previous day, direct hits were scored on buildings at Debarech and the fort of Bakki. “In Iraq, the Cantonment at Habbaniyah was machine-gunned by | German aircraft, slight damage being caused. “From all these operations, six of our aircraft are missing.” BRITISH CAPTURES. RUGBY, May 22. As a result of the capture of Fallujah on May 19, we have taken 300 Iraqi prisoners, including 27 officers, and quantities of stores and equipment. On May 19, we also took a post on the pipeline some 25 miles north-east of Rutba, capturing all the garrison. SPANISH DICTATOR. MADRID, May 22. Senor Suner was made “Dictator Falange,” under an order signed by General Franco. This virtually gives Suner as Franco’s second-in-com-mand, complete control of party appointments. BULGARIAN TROOPS. AUCKLAND, May 23. “You are sentenced to six months’ imprisonment,”, said Mr. Hunt, S.M., to Raymond John Holden, 46, single, who appeared in the Police Court on two charges of making false statements, to obtain sickness and unemployment benefits. Detective-Sergeant Nalder said that Holden declared his earnings were nil, when he was actually earning at times as much as £5 per week.
