A Maori judgment debtor caused some amusement in the Napier Magistrate’s Court when, in reply to a query as to why he did not wish to draw Social Security payments when unemployed, he said: “The country is in a bad enough state now without me making it worse.” Counsel for the creditor • then asked the defendant if he would stand for Parliament. “I would if I had the education,” .he replied. The Magistrate, in making an order expressed himself as dissatisfied with the defendant, a single man, being out of work, and advised him to get work.
