OPERA HOUSE: “GOLD MINE IN THE SKY.”
! Gene Autry, screen sensational singing cowboy, scores again in “Gold Mine in the Sky,” commencing at the Opera House to-morrow. There is plenty of good entertainment, excellent singing and action galore. Autry is surrounded by a top supporting cast and with a good story the picture comes out as all round enjoyment for the fans. Smiley Burnette plays his role of Frog Millhouse. Carol Hughes has the feminine , lead. Craig Reynolds does his dirty work in a convincing way. Robert Homans is Carol’s father, and Gene’s boss. The Stafford Sisters and the Golden West Cowboys supply most of the music, and couldn’t be better. Autry’s rendition of “There’s a Gold Mine in the Sky” is something that won’t soon be forgotten. All in all, it is a picture well worth seeing, whether you like western films, or action stories. This serves both purposes. “GANGS OF CHICAGO” Drama, romance and plenty of excitement combine to make “Gangs of Chicago,” commencing at the Opera House to-morrow and starring Lloyd Nolan,., Lola Lane and Barton MacLane, a thoroughly thrilling and entertaining drama. Nolan is depicted as Matty Burns, the ruthless co-lead-er of a vast crime organisation. An F. 8.1. agent, hoping to destroy the organisation, asks Matty’s best friend, Bill Whitaker, to become a spy. Bill agrees because he thinks that Matty is really innocent of any guilt, and that he can find the actual criminals. He learns the truth, but, before he can contact the agent, members of the combine learn what he is doing. Matty is then forced to decide whether he should sacrifice his friend or call in the police and incriminate himself. His decision provides a thrilling climax to a highly exciting story. Others in the cast include Astrid Allwyn, Ray Middleton, Horace MacMahon and Addison Richards. REGENT: Now Showing: Errol Flynn in “THE SEA HAWK.” Errol Flynn, swashbuckling hero of so many thrilling screen adventures, has his most glorious role in “The Sea Hawk,” a thrilling new saga of
the seven seas. Riding the dangerswept waters of the Spanish Main, fighting through enemy ?mbushes in the swamp-infested jungles of Panama, attacking the fighting ships of a great Armada, battling the tyranny that shackles men to the tortuous chains of a terrible bondage, Flynn’s role as “The Sea Hawk” is film adventure at its greatest heights. Mighty sea battles, daring duels, magnificent court scenes and a tender love story are masterfully interwoven in “The Sea Hawk,” which critics have labelled one of the great motion pictures of all time. Featured with Flynn is beautiful Brenda Marshall, hailed as one of the most exciting new star “finds” of the year. Claude Rains, Donald Crisp, Flora Robson, Alan Hale, William Lundigan and Una O’Connor' head the supporting cast of thousands. AIR FORCE QUEEN Activity in the Queen Carnival is now in full swing, and the committee of the Air Force Queen is not slow in arranging functions. A dance organised by the Cobden Convent, will be held to-night, and with the Kit Kat dance band providing the music, and plenty of novelties all should have an enjoyable time. Supper will be provided.
