COUNTY COUNCIL MEETING [OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] REEFTON, April 26. The monthly meeting of the Inangahua County Council was held on Thursday. Present: Councillors J. O’Regan (chairman), J. F. Seawright, T. Watson, B. Mirfin, J. McGregor, W. Clayton, W. Blackadder, W. Hempseed, P. J. O’Regan. New Welcome Gold Mining. Co. Ltd. applied for reduction in rent to 2/6 per acre per annum, for a period of one year from 1/7/41 to 30/6/42. — Reduction recommended, Cr. McGregor dissenting. i G. G. Lockington wrote on matter of supplying timber to liquidate rates.—Left to Engineer. _ < i Reefton Businessmen’s Association wrote regarding (a) re King George sth Jubilee Park; (b) old livery stables, Lower Broadway; (c) clean-1 up week etc. i W. Burnett and others wrote ask- i ing for a street light at a corner of Davis Street and Boundary Road.—; Referred to Engineer. | Mrs. D. M. Hocking wrote asking’ attention to the streets leading to her dwelling.—Referred to Engineer. i The Waitahu Coal Mining Syndi-| cate wrote drawing attention to the 1 unsafe condition of Waitahu Bridge. 'McGregor and T. Harris.—No objection. The Engineer was instructed to renew the braces on Coal Creek bridge Landing, and to attend to repairs to Walker Track, Landing. It was agreed that Mr. Gibbs re- ' pair road to Maruia Sluicing claim at cost of £lO. Cr. P. O’Regan moved, Cr. Clayton seconded, that a record of dog tax collections be made on completion of the annual collection according to ' the Ridings, and that the same be submitted to the next meeting of the Council. —Carried. ■ ’ Application is to be made for a grant of £6OO for protection of Marua Hot Springs. The Public Works i Department to be asked to expedite : the widening of Maruia Reefton Road I from 19 to 24 mile pegs. • The Engineer was instructed to attend to pot holes on Landing Creek i Road, also to repair Franklin 1 Street at Black’s Point and prepare Kelly Street and Shiel Street for tar jsealing next season. i Mr. J. K. Patterson waited on the ’Council regarding an application by A. McKenzie for a title for a water race at the head of Broadway, Reefton. Cr. Clayton moved, Cr. Watson , seconded that Mr. McKenzie be i charged 6d per week for the water 1 at the pleasure of the Council. The supply of water to be taken at Mr. McKenzie’s option.—Carried. . Seawright, T. ; Watson, B. Mirfin, P. J. O’Regan, F. ' W. Archer, W. S. Clark, W. Clayton. The Chairman referred to the death 1 of Mr E. J. Scantlebury, an ex-mem- { ber of the Board and a prominent [ citizen of Reefton. He moved that a ! letter of sympathy be sent to Mrs ’ Scantlebury—Carried. i The Department of Health wrote regarding subsidy on provision of ambulance at Reefton, advising that the Minister of Health had deferred consideration on the matter and requesting recommendation from the Inangahua Hospital Board.—The Department to be advised that the Board favours the purchasing of an ambulance, and that a recommendation be made to the incoming Board to consider the matter favourably. The Minister of Health authorised a bank overdraft not exceeding £5OO. The Department of Health wrote that it did not consider the expenditure of £330 on an operating table was warranted.—lt was decided to
