MARLBORO’ EXCEEDS QUOTA.
BLENHEIM, April 28. Marlborough’s share in the million pound appeal concluded with the winding up of the Queen Carnival, at the Waterlea racecourse, on Saturday. There were huge crowds’pi esent, and a fitting finale was provided for months of organising in connection with the Princess Competition, which preceded the Queen Carnival. The total raised exceeds £lB,OOO, with further returns still to come, exceeding the provincial quota of £15,000 bv more than £3OOO. ‘ The Queen elected on Saturday was the Pelorus Princess, Miss Wave Anderson, with the Awatere PrincesiMrs J; S. Dollar, second. The Air Force Band made popular appearances during the final functions.
