GREYMOUTH-HOKITIKA RACE
Riding conditions were ideal for the West Coast 25-mile Championship race on Saturday afternoon. There were thirteen starters but only seven completed the course. J. Cooper gained first and fastest time. He won the McAra Cup for first place, the Chainpionship ribbon for fastest time and the Gus Brown Cup for fastest time 18 years and under. J. Archer and J. Lalor dead-heated for second, with D. Clark close up third. T. Thompson was the other rider to finish with the first bunch. The only others to complete the course were G. Nelson sixth and J. Smith seventh. A. Panther was the only back man to ride well. He was only fifty yards behind the 70 sec. bunch when he retired finding the break too much to make up on his own. Results: J. Cooper (70secs.) 1 and fastest time; J. Lalor (lOOsecs.), and J. Archer (70 secs), dead heat 2; D. Clark (70secs) 4; T. Thompson (70secs) 5. Won by ten lengths; a dead heat. Time 60 mins. 53 3-5 secs.
