DISTINGUISHED SERVICE.

WELLINGTON, April 25. The Prime Minister (Mr. Fraser), has received advice from the High Commissioner for New Zealand in London (Mr. W. J. Jordan) that the following awards have been made to members of the New Zealand Expe- 1 ditionary Force in recognition of distinguished service in the Middle East:

Military Cross.

Captain. Alan Lionel Lomas. Captain Frederick Henry Muller.

Distinguished Conduct Medal.

Sergeant Richard Heywood Thomson. Trooper Ronald Joseph Moore.

Military Medal.

Sergeant Peter Gillespie Wilson.

Driver George William Corp. Driver Norman jack Prichard. Personal details of the men included in this list are:—

Captain A. L. Lomas was before his enlistment a medical practitioner on the staff of New Plymouth Hospital. He is 25 years of age, and his father is Mr. J. J. Lomas, of New Plymouth. Captain F. H. Muller was previously employed as an engine driver by the New Zealand Railways, being stationed at Frankton Junction. His age is 36. His next-of-kin is his wife, Mrs. F. W. Muller, Walter Street, Takapuna. Sergeant R. H. Thom'son, aged 29, was previously a school teacher employed by the Wellington Education Board. His mother is Mrs. P. H. Thomson, Piripaua, via Wairoa. Sergeant P. G. Wilson is an old boy of Te Aute College, 35 years of age., He was previously employed as a motor mechanic in Napier. His next-of-kin is his wife, Mrs. F. L. Wilson, of Morere, Hawke’s Bay. Driver N. J. Prichard, who is 24, was previously a law clerk employed at Bulls. His father is Mr. N. S. Prichard, Raumai Road, Bulls. Driver G. W. Corp was before his enlistment employed as a taxi driver at Dargaville. He is 30 years of age. His mother is Mrs. A. J. Browne, Dargaville. Trooper R. J. Moore, who is 25 years of age, was born at Te Aroha. His mother is Mrs. Moore, of Hautapu .Street, Taihape. Before his enlistment he was employed -on a farm at Tauroa, Taihape. ,

N.Z. CASUALTIES.

WELLINGTON, April 24. The following casualties are officially announced: — Private Laurence Francis Spaulding, died of wounds. His mother is Mrs. D. Spaulding, Wellington. Private Cyril William Wells, died of sickness. His mother is Mrs. E. O. Wells, Christchurch. Private Carl Hiskens, wounded. His sister is Mrs. D. McDougall, Lower Hutt.

Private Frederick Walter Franklin, wounded accidentally. His wife is Mrs. A. D. Franklin, Hastings. Pilot Officer Edward Walter Gillies Churches, R.N.Z.A.F., missing on operations. His mother is Mrs. F. Sharp, Mount Eden, Auckland. He was born at Cambridge, New Zealand, in 1921 and was educated at the Auckland Grammar School. He left New Zealand early in 1940.

BATTLE DRESS.

AUCKLAND, April 24.

The issue of battle dress to other than Expeditionary Force units in the Northern Military District, is expected to begin shortly and as supplies come to hand this type of uniform will be distributed to all ranks. After battle dress has been distributed to all regular personnel, temporary staff, employment section, and guards on vital points throughout the Dominion, infantry units in the 'Northern Military District will receive an issue. When the central and southern infantry have received their new uniforms, artillery units ?n the north with be given an issue. A similar procedure will follow for Engineer, Signal, Army Service Corps, and Medical Corps. The last to be issued with battle dress will be the National Military Reserve. As supplies of the serge uniforms now being worn by territorials become available they will be issued io the Home Guard. Members of the regular forces, temporary staff, and all officers will continue to use their present serge uniforms except when parading with troops.
