Reefton Company of the Home Guard held their first daylight parade on Sunday morning, when 120 members paraded at the Gymnasium, and marched to the racecourse, where the platoons were instructed in squad drill movements by the platoons commanders, and members of the N.C.O.’s class. Company drill under the command of Mr. Mathison was also practised. Mr. W. Gore Porter having been appointed Battalion Commander for the Inangahua Home Guard Battalion, with headquarters at Reefton, Mr. W. J. Humphries becomes Company Commander at Reefton. Mr. A. F. Wells succeeds Mr. Humphries as Platoon Commander No. 3 Platoon. An endeavour is to be made to form a Home Guard platoon at Cronadun. Additions have made the enrolment strength of the Reefton Company 157. Mrs. J. and Miss Renwick left, on Saturday, for Christchurch, whei* they will reside. Captain C. Coxall and Foreman J. Eager of the Reefton Fire Brigade, who were the local brigade delegates to the fire brigades’ conference at Blenheim, have returned.
