SHIPPING MOVEMENTS
INFORMATION ON TRUCKS. [per press association.] INVERCARGILL, February 17. An assurance that the practice oi chalking the names of vessels on railway trucks travelling to or from ports for loading or unloading would be stopped immediateely, was given by the Minister for Railways (Mr. Semple) in a telephone interview toThe Minister said he had not been aware of the practice until his notice was drawn to it, and he agreed it was not desirable. It was pointed oil to the Minister that all persons associated with shipping were urged not to discuss shipping movements. Railway trucks with the names of vessels chalked on them would give a clear indication to a large numbei of persons of the presence in port of the ships named,"and the practice was not consistent with the official desire for secrecy about shipping movements. “I shall stop it at once, said the Minister. “I was not aware that it was done. Thank you lor the tip. I shall get on to it in the morning.”
