LISBON STORM

FIRE AT SANTANDER. [by cable— press assn— copyright. 'l * LONDON, February 17. The gale in Lisbon is reported to have reached a velocity of 80 miles an hour. It whipped up waves 16 feet high in the Tagus, and 16 ships are said to have been sunk. Twenty-two persons were killed and many injured when '-'three carriages of an electric train were blown from a bridge into a river, between Bilbao and San Sebastian, in Spain. From Madrid it is reported that fire is sweeping Santander. It began when an oil tanker in the hgrbour exploded and it has already destroyed 200 buildings in 24 hours, including, it is reported, the docks, the cathedral and numerous houses. The governor called for help by radio from a ship in the harbour because the storm destroyed all other communications. High winds spread the blaze. Firefighting so far has been futile.. LOSS OF FLYING-BOAT

LONDON, February 16. The loss of the flying-boat Clyde in Lisbon, is officially confirmed. All of her crew are safe. Her Portuguese night-watchman is dead. Nine have been killed and 150 have been taken to hospital as a result of the hurricane.
