WOMEN’S AUXILIARY

MEETING AT GREYMOUTH. At a meeting of the District Committee of the Women’s War Service Auxiliary, held at Greymouth, yesterday, there were present: Mesdames O’Brien (chair), Smith, Kennedy, Kitchingham, Olsen, Parfitt, Fogarty, Richmond, Miss McKay and Mrs McGlashan (secretary). Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames Stewart and Ander.son. The Dominion Secretary advised that arrangements had been made with the Red Cross Society, whereby its members will be registered with the W.W.S.A. as a unit. Mr J. Grilfiths, Day Lecturer for St.. John Ambulance, wrote offering to arrange classes in first aid for the Womens Auxiliary registrants. As a numbei of the Signalling and Transport Corps will require to have first-aid certificates, it will be possible to form this class when their present course is completed. . In regard to the Brunner district, Mrs Smith reported that enrolments could now be bbtained for classes in signalling and first-aid and that airangements had been made for instructors in these classes as well as for Keep Fit classes. Mrs Kennedy was empowered to advertise in Runanga regarding enrolment, as the response in that district had been slow. It was decided that particulars of the activities of the Auxiliary be sent to Miss Harkness, Blackball, with enquiries as to the possibility ol forming a sub-centre there. The Secretary reported that enrolments to date numbered 18G; also that the Bicycle Corps would commence the mechanics’ course at 2 p.m. on Saturday, and would then undertake a two-hour ride. The classes in signalling and mechanics are in progress, but enrolments are being taken for the nex class commencing when the present course is completed, in approximately six or seven weeks’ time. Thei e are still a few vacancies in the Institutional Cookery Class, commencing on March 6.
