HUTT RIVER CHEATED
RESIDENTS REMOVE HOUSE. [per press association.] WELLINGTON, February 17. A house, partly undermined at Belmont by erosion in the Hutt Ru ■ flooding, on Friday and Saturday longer occupies its site, but the 11V has not got it. Its disappearance is due to an extraordinary eftort on the part of residents of Belmont, who in a splendid burst of neighbourly helpfulness, formed a high-speed woikim, bee, and took it to pieces and safety. They intend to rebuild it, so that the owner will have to meet little cost as a result of the river’s destructive elAt noon on Saturday, the house was in full being; at noon yesterday, nothing remained on the site but the pi . All the rest, with windows and doois, has been orderly stacked nearby. The demotion was thoroughly done, e to the pulling of nails. No little rs v was taken, as the bank undei house was still crumbling away as the work proceeded.
