CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT The West Coast Bowling Centre’s annual championship tournament was concluded on Saturday, in perfect weather, and with the greens in splendid order despite Friday’s rain. Munn’s rink (Canterbury), winners of the fours at the New Zealand championships this season, won the final of the rinks defeating Smith’s rink (Barnington). In the pairs final Taylor’s pair (Christchurch) defeated Kyle (Karoro) after an exciting game, in which Taylor’s last bowl won the match. Results of Saturday’s play were as follow:— Fours semi-finals: Smith (Barrington) 23, Moss (Greymouth) 14; Munn (Canterbury) 19, Page (Lyttelton) 16. Final: Munn 22, Smith 14. Pairs semi-finals: Taylor (Christchurch) 20, Sansom (Karoro) 13, Kyle (Karoro) 21, Armstrong (Runanga) 20. Final: Taylor 22, Kyle 19. Taylor, winner of the pairs, is aged 80 years. In his rink, the combined ages totalled 297 years. Mr. T. Bowes (President of the Centre) presented the trophies. He congratulated the winners, and thanked' all who had assisted to make the tournament such a success. The class of bowling throughout the tournament was the best ever seen on the West Coast, and was equal to that at the Dominion championships. Mr. Munn, in the course of his reply, thanked the Centre for the hospitality extended the visitors, and also thanked his team mates in the' successful rink. He paid a high tribute to the Greymouth and Runanga greens, which he said were equal to any he had played on. Christchurch was not to be compared with Greymouth.

Mr. Taylor, in the course of his reply, said that the Greymouth green was one of the best he had played on, and-he had played bowls from Auckland to the Bluff. It was the best running green in the Dominion. Cheers for the winners, the run-ners-up, and the committee, concluded the presentation ceremony. CHAMPION’OF CHAMPIONS The Champion of Champions rinks was concluded on the Greymouth green yesterday, between Runanga, Greymouth and Karoro. At the commencement of play, Runanga had two lives, and Greymouth and Karoro one each. The teams were: Runanga: Halliday, Smith, Sharp, O’Neill (s). Karoro: Gerraghty, Airey, Cox, Peek (s). Greymouth: Hughes, Warnes, Robertson, Mercer (s). The Greymouth rink proved much superior to their opponents, and ran up a total of 82 points against 27 scored by the three opposing rinks. Following were the results: — First round—Grey mouth 32, Karoro 13. Second Round —Greymouth 24, Runanga 8. Final: Greymouth 26, Runanga 6.
