CORNWELL CUP. [per press association.] WANGANUI, January 20. The annual contest for the Cornwell Cup began on the Wanganui River to-day. The first -race resulted in a win for the Wanganui crew the holders, who beat Christchurch by one minute. Manukau was third, and Plimmerton fourth. The second race was held this afternoon and was won by Christchurch, with Plimmerton second and Paremata third. Two minutes separated the first and second boats. In the first race each crew sailed its own boat, and for the second the draw became automatic. Results were: — First Race —Wanganui (Aloha), H. and C. Armit, 1; Christchurch (Blue Peter), B. Lamb and P. Lamb, 2; Manukau (Te Uira), P. Pascoe and 8., Ballard, 3. Second Race—Christchurch (Aloha), B. and P. Lamb, 1; Plimmerton (Te’ Uira), L. J. Casey and B. Kirkwood, 2; Paremata (Echo), M. Montgomerie and ,R. McCaughley, 3. Christchurch won by two minutes. CRICKET. I. B. Cromb’s Eleven to play Greymouth at Greymouth on Sunday next is as follows: —I. B. Cromb, D. N. McRae, W. O. Mappiebeck, L. P. McGrath (wicket-keeper), (Lancaster Park), C. J. Oliver, A. Burgess, S. Cameron (Sydenham), I. Baxter, R. Rattray, W. McD. Anderson (Old Boys), D. Moynihan (West Old Boys), J. Rabone (Harewood). Cromb] Burgess, Anderson. Mappiebeck and Moynihan have all represented Canterbury this season, Oliver is a former Canterbury and New Zealand representative, Rabone, a former Wellington representative, and Mcßae, a forme)’ Canterbury representative.
