Mr. J. Steel, senr., left this morning, for Wellington. Mr. W. Greenhill left this morning, for Wellington. Mrs. P. Payne left this morning, for Timaru. . , Mrs. R. Morris, of Wellington, is visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. F. White, Runanga. Misses E. Davison and B. Garvey, Runanga, returned yesterday, from Invercargill. Miss M. Banfield, who has been visiting Mr. and Mrs. W. P. Boucher, will leave tb-morrow, on return to Christchurch. Mr. and Mrs. D. McCaskill, who are the guests of Mr. and Mrs. R. T. Bush, Greymouth, will leave to-mor-row, on return to Wellington. Guests at Revingtons Hotel include: Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Beckford, Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Sharland, Mr. E. Hill, Mr. L. S. Gibson, Mr. A. D. The Minister of Agriculture, Mr. W. Lee Martin, whose resignation from the Cabinet was announced to a recent caucus of the Government party, does not intend to contest the Raglan seat at the next General Election. His health has been unsatisfactory for over a year, and during about four months of that period he was obliged to give up active Ministerial work. Though his health appears to be improving, Mr. Lee Martin acted on medical advice in deciding to withdraw from active politics.
The death occurred at Greymouth, this morning, of Mrs. Minnie Mary Turley, of Ward Street, Cobden. A native of Nelson, aged 48 years, deceased had resided in Cobden for the past 25 years. She had suffered a long illness. She leaves one daughter, Dulcye Cobden), one sister, Mrs. F. Wrigley (Wellington), and three brothers, Messrs George, John and Thomas. Goodman, all of-Nelson. The funeral will take place at Karoro Cemetery on. Friday afternoon, leaving the residence at 2 o’clock.
The death occurred at her residence, Tainui Street, Greymouth, this afternoon, following a long illness, of Mrs. Margaret Agatha Carroll, wife of Mr. Andrew Michael Carroll. A native of Donohues, Ross, deceased was a member of the well-known Boyle family. She had resided on the West Coast all her life and was for a considerable period a resident of Reefton, prior to coming to Greymouth about 12 years ago. Besides her husband, she leaves two daughters, Misses Peggy and Moira Carroll (both of Greymouth). One son, Patrick, lost his life while mountaineering in the Southern Alps on February 12, 1938. She is also survived by five sisters, Mesdames M. Sullivan (Weheka), Kelly (Ruatapu), J. Donovan (Waiho), Shingles (Greymoutn) and Ward (Arahura) and one brother, Mr. M. Boyle (Ross).
