HOKITIKA R.S.A.

MONTHLY MEETING [OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HOKITIKA, December 17. The monthly meeting of the Hokitika R.S.A. was held last evening. Present: Dr. T. W. J. Childs (President), Messrs R. Paterson (Secretary), F. McGregor, W. Eastgate, G. C. Wilson, G. A. King, J. N. Robinson, C. H. Harrison, T. Stuart, C. Hart, H. Park, H. Wells, J. S. Bain and P. R. Whitford.

Mr. Whitford reported on visits to ex-servicemen in hospitals in Hokitika, there being only four at present. Tobacco was issued as usual. Messrs Stuart and Wells were appointed visitors for next month.

An invitation was received from the National Reserve, Greymouth, to attend a social. The President regretted that he was unable to attend awing to the social being held on the ;ame night as the monthly meeting. Headquarters advised that the Caneen Fund allocation for the months af August, September, October and November, was £2OOO to be devoted .owards the alleviation of ' distress among ex-servicemen.

No grant has been made to Hokifika owing to there being no unemployed ex-servicemen in the district.

A circular was received from Headquarters stating that the national financial membership at the end of November was 32,953. For companion purposes the figures were quoted “or the same period last year which were 25,674. Hokitika is shown as 37th on the membership ladder with a membership of 206. There was a total of 91 Associations throughout New Zealand.

An expression of opinion was requested by Headquarters as to the most suitable date for the end of the financial year. It was decided to suggest the end of April. The Secretary was instructed to forward Christmas greetings to Headquarters. The meeting decided to make the usual visit to the soldier oatients in the local hospitals on Christmas Day and to issue Christmas cheer.

_ The President extended congratulations to Mr. Eastgate on his being appointed Group Commander of the Home Guard and assured him that he would have the full co-operation of the local R.S.A. Mr. Eastgate suitably replied. . The chairman extended the season’s greetings to all.
