BARRYTOWN NOTES

[our own correspondent.] An enjoyable social and dance organised by the management and staff Of White’s Electric Gold Dredging, the proceeds to be handed to the local patriotic fund, was held recently in the local hall. The function took the glace of a farewell evening as White’s Electric dredge is being dismantled, and will, in the near future, be shifted to a new area.

• Mr. Werner, manager, took the opportunity, on behalf of himself and the crew of the dredge, to thank the people of the district for their many kindnesses and said that the general hospitality that existed helped greatly to make the sojourn happy. Mr. T. Gillooly, manager Barrytown dredge, replying on behalf of the people, thanked Mr. Werner for his kind remarks, and wished them the best of luck wherever they may go.

Songs were sung by Mesdames J. Pevereux, Werner, Dennehy, Gardyne, Innes and Mr. C. Henry. Fisbher’s Orchestra supplied the music for the dance. Mr. Thomas acted as M.C.

Mr. and Mrs. E. Brown leave next week to reside in Hokitika, Mr. Brown having accepted a position on the Rimu Gold Dredging staff. Mr. S. Armory leaves on Saturday for Levin, where he is to report at the Royal New Zealand Air Force. Mr. and Mrs. B. B. Russell leave next week on a holiday to Invercargill and Bluff. ■ Mrs. H. G. Warring has returned from Christchurch.
