IKAMATUA NOTES

[our own correspondent.] With favourable weather, considerable activity is now taking place on the Ikamatua Tennis, Club’s courts and several interesting matches have been played during the past week. The courts were top-dressed during the off-season and are now in good order, while the surroundings have been improved by the efforts of club members. In the meantime, there are to be no inter-club competition fixtures, owing to the petrol restrictions, but friendly matches will probably be played. In men’s ladder matches, H. C. Cullen retained top position, defeating L. O’Malley 9/2. F. Matthews challenged L. O’Malley for second place, but was defeated 2/9. In a men’s. Buttons match, R. Bradley and H. Steel (holders) lost to L. O’Malley and Symons, after a close game, 29/31.

A number of the younger players are- showing considerable promise and should do well as the season advances.
