BARRYTOWN NOTES

[our own correspondent.] The"’monthly meeting of the Barry-town-Punakaiki Women’s Institute was held at the residence of Mrs H. Innes. Mesdames Robertson and ( Werner assisted as hostesses. Mrs W. ■ Rowe presided. The monthly competitions resulted: Novelty Christmas gift,’ Mesdames W. Russell and Robertson equal ,1, Mrs Butterworth 3. x Cake competition: Mrs W. Russell 1, Mrs H. Innes 2. The paper competition was won by Mrs W r . Butterworth. The roll call, “Should husbands help in the house?” caused much amusement. A report on the conference held in Reefton recently was given by Mrs H. Richards, who was accorded a vote of thanks. The president farewelled two members, i Mrs H. Richards and Mrs Robertson, Who are leaving the district to reside elsewhere. Occasion was taken to Wish members a happy Christmas and prosperous New Year. The meeting closed with the singing of the National Anthem. • , ■ ' Last Thursday evening," the hall was packed to capacity, when an enI joyable concert, held under the aus--1 pices of the local Patriotic Commit- i tee was given by Mr H.
