SHIFT WORK DISPUTE [PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON, November 19. “I am satisfied that, if the employers had dropped the application for shift work, we could have had a settlement,” declared Mr. Allerby, in the Arbitration Court, appearing in support of an application for a new award covering the drivers employed by local bodies throughout the Dominion, with the exception of the four main centres and Petone. Shift work was an entirely new departure in this award, and the union could not accept proposals in this direction. Mr. Bishop, for the local bodies, said that they were able to work their labourers on shift, .and it was necessary that they should have the right to work drivers working with them on shift, also.
