DROUGHT IN BRITAIN
SHORTAGE OF STOCK FEED.. [BRITISH OFFICIAL WIRELESS.] RUGBY, September 21. Widespread drought and a consequent shortage of grass‘has caused many farmers to offer large numbers of stock for sale earlier in the season than is usual. The numbers entered at the Food Ministry’s collecting centres are more than can be dealt with.? and if accepted by the Ministry, the excess animals would have to be held in paddocks attached to slaughterhouses. Such a course would involve considerable wastage of good meat. In these circumstances, the Minister of Food Supply has found it necessary to impose a temporary limitation on the numbers of beasts to be accepted for slaughtering. It is possible this limitation may continue for some weeks, but it will be removed at the earliest possible time. The difficulties Which the farmers will experience as the result of this decision, will largely be resolved by the maintenance of price and a postponement of the next three season decreases.
