DUKE OF WINDSOR
SWEARING-IN CEREMONY.

NASSAU, August 17. The Duke and Duchess of Windsor received the warmest possible welcome here. The Duke was sworn in as Governor by the Chief Justice, Judge E. B. Daly, while Mrs. W. L. Heape, wife of the Acting-Governor, introduced the wives of the officials. The Duke in a brief response, thanked the people for ,their cordial reception-.- He said he hoped that, with his past experience land the co-operation of the people, his task would not prove formidable. An audience in the Legislative Chamber cheered after the ceremonies. The Duke went to the balcony and waved to a cheering crowd and then drove to Government House. The route was lined with people. There were thousands round the building cheering, necessitating the Duke appearing at the windows. The Duke was welcomed earlier on his arrival by a huge cheering crowd. The Duke stood to attention during the National Anthem. He received a Royal Salute. He was sworn in to office with the oath: “I, Edward, swear that I will well and truly serve His Majesty the King.”
