TOBACCO DEARER
SALES TAX EFFECT

WELLINGTON, June 28.
The Tobacco Trade Council announces that because of the increase in the sales tax from 5 per cent, to 10 per cent., the Price Tribunal has authorised increased retail prices of tobacoc as follows: — Tobacco retailing at 1/11 or less for each two ounces, increased by Id for each two ounces. Tobacco retailing at 1/llj to 3/(inclusive) for each two ounces, increased by l|d for each two ounces, i- Tobacco retailing at more than 3/for each two ounces increased by 2d for each two ounces.
Tobacco retailing at ll|d or less an ounce, increased by a half-penny an ounce.
Tobacco retailing at 1/- or more an ounce increased by Id an ounce. The increased retail prices authorised by the tribunal will apply only to tobacco on which the higher rate of sales tax has been charged and not to stocks bought on the basis of the lower rate of sales tax. Cigarettes are exempt from sales tax and are not affected.
