WOMEN’S £20,000 BEQUEST

AID FORxELDERLY MEN Ipeb press association.] DUNEDIN, June 28. A charitable bequest of considerable value was made under the will of Mrs. Hugh McGill-Brown, who as Miss Madge Emery was well known in Dunedin. Mrs. McGill-Brown,.who was a daughter of Mr. William Emery, was living in Wellington at the time of her death in December last. The bequest is to. commemorate the name of, Mr. Emery. A trust is to be established by investing half of the residue of the estate. This trust is to be controlled by a board of trustees to be known as the William Emery Trust Board. The board will comprise three persons, one of whom is to be the Anglican Bishop for the time being of the diocese of Dunedin, another the minister of the First Church, and the third.the president of the Rotary Club in Dunedin.

The board is to apply the income of the trust fund for the relief, care, and maintenance of elderly men of not less than 50 years of age living in Dunedin or its suburbs, who have lived or formerly lived in the province of Otago for at least five years and who may or may not be in indigent circumstances. A desire is expressed that persons to whom assistance is afforded should be selected principally from retired professional or businessmen. It is estimated that the amount of the trust fund will exceed £20,000.
