CAR AND TRAIN COLLIDE. CHRISTCHURCH, June 28.

James Wilson, aged 50, a farmer, of 50 Princess Street, Ashburton, suffered head injuries when the motor-car he was driving collided with a train at Sockburn railway crossing, this afternoon. He was taken to the Christchurch Public Hospital by the St. John ambulance, and his condition to-night was reported to be satisfactory.

NURSES’ MEMORIAL FUND DUNEDIN, June 28.

The twenty-third annual general meeting of the New Zealand Nurses’ Memorial Fund (incorporated) was held yesterday afternoon. Sir Lindo Ferguson presided. The president referred to the death of Mr. W. T. Monkman, who had been secretary to the provisional committee which initiated the memorial fund and for 22 years had been honorary auditor.

Officers were elected as follows: — President: Sir Lindo Ferguson; vicepresidents, Mr. James I3egg (Dunedin), and Dr. W. Young (Wellington); committee, Mrs. E. A. Kidd, Dr. E. H. B. Milsom (Auckland), Miss M. J. Lamble, Mrs. T. H. Lowry (Wellington), Miss H. E. Newman, Sir Hugh Acland (Canterbury), Dr. R. Burns Watson (Southland), Miss A. Holford, Miss D. Theomin, Miss E. J. Young, Mr. J. M. Paterson, Dr. Russell Ritchie (Otago); secretary, Mrs. H. W. Bundle; treasurer, Mr. J. A. McKinnon.
