A final dividend ot--1 8d a share is recommended, making 1/4 a share or 8 per cent, for the year (unchanged). The year’s dividend ab- „ sorbs £39,833, leaving £44,139 to be 1 carried . forward against £38,937 * brought in’. CLUTHA RIVER For the week ended May 3 the Clutha River dredge operating at Alexandra worked 102 hours for a return of 45 ounces. GILLESPIES BEACH Return for two weeks ended May 4: 59 ounces 14dwt for 242 hours from 30,080 cubic yards. ALEXANDER Report for month of April: No. 6 level: Driving north on a promising reef track was commenced about 40ft back from end of drive. The face has been advanced 46ft in very soft and broken country, -with very little water. Quartz leaders are being followed, but assay values that were taken are not yet to hand. Stoping has been carried out on three faces above No. 6 level and No. 5 intermediate level. Average width of reef 30in. A considerable amount of filling was done in the i stopes above No. 5 intermediate level i by driving into the walls of the stopes. ; One hundred and sixty-five tons of ore were transported to the battery for the i month.

Gold returns for month of April: — Battery department: 150 tons of ore crushed for 29ozs lOdwtS' melted gold. Cyanide department: 20ozs 14dwts bullion. Total estimated value: £365. In addition, two and three-quarter tons of concentrates were saved, containing 17.33 ozs., valued at £139. Note. —In estimating the above value, gold has been taken at £8 per fine ounce. BLACKWATER. REEFTON, May 7The Blackwater Mines’ return for April is: Crushed 4343 tons, yielding 1819 fine ounces of gold, from all sources, including a clean-up of the old mill, the value of which, taking gold at 168/- per ounce, was £15,280. Working expenses, not including ordinary or war gold duty, were £8646. Development expenditure was £667 and capital expenditure £844.
