Declining stocks of copper in the Dominion may necessitate a tightening up of the regulations regarding the use of this metal. A report tabled at a meeting of the Auckland Electric Power Board by the manager, Mr. R. H. Bartley, stated that the supply of copper from Australia was totally prohibited, and advice had been received from Australia that a similar prohibition would be enforced on supplies from Great Britain. The position had been considered by members of district advisory committees at a recent conference in Wellington, when it was learned that while there were to be rigid control of copper exported from Great Britain there would not be a total prohibition. However, the position in New Zealand should still be regarded with caution, an indication having been given by the Controller of Electricity, Mr. F. T. M. Kissel, that applications for extensions would be rigidly scrutinised.
