BOARD’S MONTHLY MEETING [OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HOKITIKA, February 21. The Westland Hospital Board met last evening; present: Messrs. E. M _. Heenan (chairman), T. W. Duff, J. Fox, J. L. Turner, A.. R. Elcock, J. A. Murdoch. A. Dale. Apologies for absence were received 1 from - Messrs. G. H. Chapman, W. A. Jamieson, and G. Heinz. The Department of Health wrote regarding the proposed sales of the Board’s properties.—lt was decided to offer a section in Kumara and three sections in Hokitika for sale by public tender. The Hospital Boards’ Association wrote regarding leave and allowances of employees- .serving in. .the military forces. —It was decided to adhere to the regulations. - - ' The Student Ny-rses- Association wrote expressiiig appreciation ,cf theBoard’s action in paying expenses of Nurse Taylor to Wellington. Accounts amounting to £1,929/10/1 'were passed for payment. Receipts [were £1,646/16/2 and expenditure £2 188/5/10. I The question of increased wages for the farm employees was- deferred to I the end of the financial year.
STAFF REPORTS I The Matron’s report stated: Janu-j ary has been an exceptionally busy month, especially the latter half. The highest number of occupied beds was 82, the lowest 40, average for . the month 62. Number of operations 81, X-rays 39, number of screenings 2, number of massage and physio- theraphy treatments 161. Sister Fowler was off duty sick 21/1/40 and is still off. Sister relieving sister, commenced duties January 18. Probationer nurses Wise, Johnson and Brown commenced duties January 25. Nurse E. Berry commenced duties as second year nurse 28/1/40. Sister Airey resumed duties. Sister Revell, 14 days’ leave, - resumed 12/1/40. Nurse Merrick 10/1/40 to 7/2/40. Nurse Minehan /-returned 28/1/40. 'Nurse Avery ‘.resumed duties 8/1/40. Nurse Fairhall.; ; - -resumed 1 duties 114/1/40. Nurse Blundell resumed '■26/1/40. Sister .Fowler, Nurses Inder. Kennedy, and Taylor have holidays} due. Nurse Nplai\ A was granted- . one | [week special leave to attend Con- ! gres-s. Sister Steadman - resigned. Domestic Staff: Miss P. Haussman resumed duties 28/1/40. Miss E.'Moriarty is on annual, leave. Miss- E. 'Johnson, M. Knapp, and T. Thorpe resigned. Miss Stella Kennedy has been appointed.
