SYDNEY, February 12.
H.M.S. Warrego, escort ship, was launched by Mrs. Menzies, at Cockatoo Island, and the keels of two other naval vessels were laid by Mr.. Menzies and the Minister of the Navy (Mr. Stewart).
DAMAGE BY BUSHFIRES
SYDNEY, February 12.
Hundreds of firemen and volunteers worked throughout the. week-end, fighting serious bush-fires in the country, and outer suburbs of Sydney. Damage' estimated at, £20,000 -was caused by a fire at the pithead Of Glebe colliery near Newcastle. Fires in the' outlying districts of Lithgqw are-described as the worst in living memory'. Thirty thousand acres of grass apd wheat land were destroyed' by a bigbushfire near Wagga.
