DORIC STAR’S SINKING
NO N.Z. MAILS ON BOARD , [PER PRE93 ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON, December 7. No Now Zealand mails were on board the Doric Star, which is believed to have been sunk by enemy action in the South Atlantic. It is not known what Australian mails, if any, were carried by the vessel; but it is known that no mails from New Zealand were despatched by this ship. HEAVY LOSS OF BUTTER WELLINGTON, December 7. Brief reference to the loss of the Doric Star was made by the Minister for Marketing (Mr. Nash), when making an appeal for increased production during a broadcast address' tonight. “We don’t know the full facts yet; but the Doric Star is thought to be at the bottom of the sea,” said Mr. Nash. “There was a tremendous lot cf butter produced by the dairy farmers of this country on that ship, and Britain will want more to make up for that lost. The more of our produce we can send to Britain the better it will be for Britain and for us too.”
