EARTH TREMORS

[BY CABLE —PRESS ASSN. —COPYRIGHT.] NEWCASTLE, November 21. The first earth tremors in the Newcastle district within living memory were felt in the areas along the coastline from Newcastle to Swansea, yesterday evening. Houses shook slightly, and low rumbles were heard. PETROL TO BE DEARER. MELBOURNE, November 21. The retail price of petrol will probably be raised by sixpence per gallon shortly. The increase be made up of duty threepence, the oil companies’ portion of twopence, and the retailers’ share of one penny per gallon. Such a rise would affect the consumption to such an extent that the rationing of petrol would be unnecessary. The increase will assist the Commonwealth Government to finance Sits huge defence expenditure.
