WEST COAST MATCHES

M. MARSHALL SCORES CENTURY.

Rain again postponed all matches in the West Coast Cricket Association’s competitions, on Saturday. Yesterday’s games were played on wickets that favoured the howlers, and scores were generally low. An exception was a brilliant century scored by M. Marshall for Marist A against Brunner al the Recreation Ground. He retired unbeaten at 101. Cobden had a three-point win against Kumara by an innings and 51 runs. In the first innings Kumara made 17 runs (W.' Barlow six wickets for 8 runs, and D. Knapp four for 7). Cobden replied with 90 (Knapp 39, Guy 18 not out and Mclntosh 11, Wallace two for 24). In the second innings Kumare made 22 runs (Knapp five for 10 and Finnerty four for 6). United gained a two point win over Runanga by 24 runs on the first innings. Runanga in the first innings made 43 (Cowan 12, R. Scott five for 10, Lindley four for 25). In reply United made 67 (D. Sandman 29 not out, G. Cullen 13, Harrison five for 15, Poole one for 5, Cowan two for 23, and McNamara one for 22). Runanga was all out in the second innings for 143 runs at stumps (Harrison 35, Greening 54 not out, Darwell 13, L. Hunter 15, Lindley four for 70, Sandman three for 22 and Baird one for 4). Marist A had a two-point win against Brunner, winning by 117 runs. Batting first, Marist made 224 runs (M. Marshall 101 retired, Tindale 14, Beiliss 28, Attewell 21, Kerridge 16, Gleeson three for 47 and Gilbert two for 37). Brunner replied with 107 runs (Gleeson 17, Henderson 10, Lee 17, Rowlands 12, Tindale three for 15 and Beiliss three for 15).

Marist B. gained a two-point win against Camerons, winning by 64 runs on the first innings. Batting first, Marist B made 121 runs (J. Curnow 40, Somerville 28, Dalkie five for 37 and Cleave two for 14). In reply Camerons made 57 runs (Dalkie 16, Robinson 16, Curnow five for 16 and Cornish two for 26). In the second innings Marist declared with 74 runs for four wickets (K. Breen 18, J. Leitch 18, Curnow 20, Dalkie two for 7, Cleave two for 8). Camerons in the second innings made 72 runs for eight wickets at stumps (Calder 40, Dalkie 14, Cornish four for 37 and Curnow two for 19). AT OTHER CENTRES. CHRISTCHURCH, November 19. The third round of the Canterbury Cricket Association’s competitions were concluded yesterday in ideal weather conditions and on fast wickets. There was good scoring in most of the games, but the highlight of the day was the first wicket stand of 174 by R. E. J. Menzies and W. A. Hadlee for Old Boys against Riccarton. Sydenham defeated St. Albans by six wickets. Sydenham 118 for four wickets declared, and 95 for four declared (C. J. Olivei’ 45 not out, L. A. Butterfield 24 not out, T. B. Burtt two for 26); St. Albans 44 and 168 (W. C. Dailey 86, N. S. McCann 20, W. Spong seven for 41, F. W. Newton three for 70). Lancaster Park defeated Old Collegians by an innings and 49 runs. Lancaster Park 340 for seven declared (F. Kerr 118, I. B. Cromb 60, D. A. Stout 36, J. McLennan 31 not out, G. P. Dryden 29, C. V. Empson 25, J. C. Saunders two for 36); Old Collegians 152 and 139 (R. C. Saunders 33, J. H. Reeves 26, D. N. Mcßae four for 33, R. J. Read three for 36). Old Boys defeated Riccarton by 59 runs on the first innings. Old Boys 305 (R. E. J. Menzies 113, W. A. Hadlee 76, W. Anderson. 26, M. Graham 25, R. J. Hay six for 87); Riccarton 246 and 29 for two wickets (L. Heazlewood 16 not out). East Christchurch defeated West Christchurch by 99 runs on the first innings. East 311 (V. James 73 not out, J. Wason 42. R. Blight 38, M. Lohrey 35, J. Varcoe 34, H. Davis 24, D. P. White 20, J. Nee three for 65). West 212 and 44 for four wickets. Lancaster Park are now leading for the championship with 21 points, Old Boys being second with 18, and East Christchurch third with 11.

AUCKLAND, November 19.

A feature of the cricket matches on Saturday was the opening partnership between A. J. Postles and J. E. Mills for Eden, which realised 232 runs in ISS minutes, Postles scoring 106 and Mills 128. Details: Middlemore 196 (11. T. Pearson 73, N. McMahon 43; A. M. Matheson three for 42, W. H. Cooper three for 56) met University 27 for one. Eden 415 for eight (Mills 128, Postles 106, W. N. Carson 79; M. Clark five for 120, M. Mutton three for 141) met Parnell. Ponsonby-Balmoral 222 (R. H. Cleave 66, F. S. Clark 70 not out, O. S. Cleal 38; J. Cowie five for 60, C. Burke four for 79) met Grafton 65 for two. Y.M.C.A. 140 (A. E. Wilkinson 41; I. Cleal four for 53; W. J. McDevitt three for 10) met North Shore 108 for one (H. G. Walters 60, D. B. Edmonds 33 not out).

WELLINGTON, November 19.

The third series of seiror cricket championship matches concluded on Saturday in line weather and on fast wickets. Wellington College Old Boys 475 defeated Midland 304 (Tindill 64, Osborn 63, Fay 46, Buddle 32, Crawford 51) and 97 for six wickets (Randall 28, Allen 27) by 171 runs on the first innings. Tindill and Osborn put on 118 for the fifth wicket. Bowling for Old Boys, Whyte took five for 63 and four for 59, Browne two for 70, Boyes two for 82 and Du Chateau two for 20. Wellington 156 and 178 for eight wickets declared (Morgan 76, Whyte 29) defeated Institute 114 (Bilby 50) and 212 for eight wickets (Boddy 47, Marton 37, Lang 30, Scott 31). Bowling for Institute. Boddy took three for 53, A. McLean three for 46, Bartlett one for 12 and Lang one for 5. For Wellington Symes took six for 42 and five for 103, Meech two for 32 and one for 14, and Morgan two for 57. Institute wanted only nine runs to secure an outright win. but Wellington won by 42 runs on the first innings. Hutt 200 for six wickets declared and 166 for eight wickets (McLeod 58 not out, Gwilliam 10) defeated Karori 137 and 226 (Standidge 70, J. Coupland 41), scoring an outright win. For Hutt. Muir took four for 45, Gillies two for 33 and Champness two for 65. For Karori, Searell took four for 46 and King three for 66. Kilbirnie 338 for eight wickets declared (Wrigley 121, Eaton 53, Wilson 68, Lubransky 44) won on the first innings from University 149 and 221 for seven wickets (Sheffield 95 not out, J. A. Ongley 57). Bowling for Kilbirnie, Parkin took two for 36, and A. Ashenden two for 26. For University, Manley took six for 96.

DUNEDIN, November 19.

Steady rain on Friday night waterlogged the wickets for Dunedin grade cricket on Saturday, and light rain which set in in the middle of the afternoon completed a disappointing day. In most games there was only a short time for play. Old Boys scored 136 (Dickinson 43; Carter six for 55) against Carisbrook B, which put on seven without loss. Carisbrook A captured seven Albion wickets for 94, of which Duncan scored 61. Dunedin was routed by University and totalled only 85, Begg, with seven for 29, being the main destructive agent. The remaining game did not progress far, Grange scoring 51 for three wickets against Kaikorai. SHEFFIELD SHIELD GAMES. SYDNEY. November 19. Results of Sheffield . Shield cricket matches yesterday were: — At Adelaide, South Australia, in the first innings made 261 (Klose 80, Waite 67; Scott three for 55, Ring three for 75, Fleetwood-Smith two for 59), and Victoria in its second innings lost one for 104 ( Lee not out 61). At Brisbane, New South WaleB in its first innings made 287 (Robinson 30, Cheetham 85, Pepper 81: Dixon three for 44. Christ two for 62), and Queensland in its second innings lost four for 156 (Brown not out 90, Rogers 45).
