FORCED LANDING

CRASH NEAR NEW PLYMOUTH. [per press association.] NEW PLYMOUTH, November 18. A New Plymouth pilot in the Royal New Zealand Air Force, Pilot Officer C. R. Parker, had a miraculous escape from serious injury this morning, when the aeroplane he was flying stalled and crashed into a fence when making a forced landing in broken country on a Kent road farm, five miles from town. The aeroplane, a Miles Hawk monoplane, was badly damaged, but Parker escaped with a gash on a cheek which necessitated several stitches. Parker was flying over his parents’ farm, and apparently, when he was at the top of a climb his engine cut out. The wheels touched ground, and had a strong fence not been in the way he would probably hlave made a safe landing in spite of the rough nature of the ground. The aeroplane struck the fence with a terrific impact. The front of the light machine and the undercarriage were extensively damaged.
