INCREASE IN BRITAIN.

The Mines Department announces that, in accordance with the undertakings giv t en to the Government by the Central Council of the colliery owners, that the general level bf pithead prices would not be raised without prioi’ consultation and agreement with the Government, the Central; Council has submitted an application for an increase to cover wages additions operating from November 1, and certain increased costs of production arising from war conditions. The application has been investigated by independent accountants appointed by the Government, and, based upon their report, an increase of 1/per ton for England and Scotland, and 1/4 for Wales, has been agreed to. The Government has made an order requiring that existing contract prices for inland supplies shall be increased by 1/- per ton.
