CANCER RESEARCH
AUCKLAND APPOINTMENTS [PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.] AUCKLAND, November 3. From several applications for the position of statistical research officer, at Auckland, the local division of the British. Empire Cancer Campaign Society has decided to support that of Dr. F. F. Silberstein, formerly professor of pathologv at the University of Vienna. Delegates to the annual meeting of the New Zealand branch of the
society were instructed to inform representatives from the southern centres of the decision when the conference opens in Wellington. A cablegram from Mr. W. .1. Jordan, High Commissioner in London, said that Dr. Silberstein was highly recommended by senior officials of the Lister Institute and the Government lymph laboratory as possessing exceptionally high qualifications. He had lost his position in Vienna solely through racial grounds. Dr. Walter Gilmour said Dr. Silberstein would not be on the medical register, nor would he treat patients. It was decided that a letter should be sent to the Minister for Health advising him of the executive’s decision. It was stated' by the secretary that the amount at present in hand was £ 1647.
