The Board of Trade returns for September, 1939, show that impotrs into Britain were valued at. £49,924,000, compared with x7t>,501,000 in September, 1935, a decrease of £25.077,000. The value of exports was £23,087,000, against £39,809,000 in September, 1938, a decrease of £16,732,000. Re-exports were valued at. £2,370,000. The principal increase was in the imports of raw cotton and waste, which were up by £609,000. The chief decreases were:-— Imports. Grain and flour, £3,775,000; meat, £1,489,000; dairy produce, £l,787,000; fresh fruit and vegetables. £1,263,000; beverages. £3,421.000; other food. £1,240,000: tobacco, £1,232,000; wool, £1,424,000: hides and skins, £850,000; non-ferrous metals and manufactures, £832,000: (5775. fats, and resins, £1,233,000. Exports—Coal £<846.000; iron and steel manufactures. £1,361,000. machinery, £2,212,000; cotton yarns, £988.000; woollen and worsted yarns and manufactures, £943,000; vehicles, £3.945.000; miscellaneous manufactures, £1,024,000. Re-exports: Hides and skins, £292.000.
