FARMERS’ UNION

MID-CANTERBURY resolutions. [per press association.] ASHBURTON, October 27. The Mid-Canterbury Executive of the Farmers’ Union adopted the' following resolutions: — That no local body shall be permitted to make any donation in excess of the amount permitted as unauthor ised expenditure. That the employees of local bodies who enlist be granted leave, without pay, while on service. That the Union should stress the need for a National Register, so “that the full man-power of the country could be utilised to the best advantage.” . x That, the Union protest against evasion by the Government of the question of how long control of the' pastoral industry would last, and the Union urge a commandeer the same as last year. It was stated that the first resolution aimed at forestalling local bodies being used by the Government as collecting agencies. . The third amounted, it was explained, to a call for compulsory service in New Zealand, and also overseas.
