SINKING OF ATHENIA

EVIDENCE AGAINST GERMANS. [by cable —PRESS ASSN. —COPYRIGHT.] MONTREAL, October 26. The “New York Daily News’’ says: The U.S. Department of Justice is investigating impressive evidence that Germans sank the Athenia because they are convinced that she carried 22,000,000 dollars in gold metal, and 37,000,000 dollars worth of negotiable securities. It is asserted that information to that effect, came from sources close to two great German salvaging companies, one of which is the Krupp firm. It is added that Canadian representatives of the Athenia’s owners are not aware if she carried such treasure.
