UNITED CLUB’S MEETING. Mr. W. Rapley presided over an attendance of 12 members at the annual meeting of the United Cricket Club last evening. The chairman’s annual report, as follows, was adopted: The 1938-39 season was very succesful, from a cricketing point of view, the seniors winning both the Wingham Cup and Shield. During the whole of the season they suffered one defeat only, and played one drawn game. The juniors were not so successful, but their keenness compensated for their lack of success. It was considered by some that our senior teams were too strong for the competitions, but actually our success flattered our strength, and it was mainly due to the fact that our players met their obligations by turning up when picked to play, that we were j always able to take the field at full| strength. Members are to be eon-j gratulated on their sense of responsibility to the club, 'rhe'standard of play and co-operation was good, and the two new players, Lindley and I Joseph acquitted themselves well both • with bat. and ball. Messrs Rapley, Ellis, Lindley. M. Taylor, E. Taylor' and Cullen earned representative hon-, ours. The financial position of the club is satisfactory, and when two, outstanding subscriptions are collected, we can commence the 1939-40 season clear of debt. I would like to take] this opportunity of thanking our patron ami vice-presidents for their generous support; also our energetic secretary, Mr. G. Howes, for his work, 'rhe club has lost B. Mann. L. Ellis, and M. Taylor, the latter having gone into camp. No doubt we will lose other members in this way from time’ to time, in view of the present inter-1 national situation. The prospect tori the club for the coming season are quite bright, and so far.the following now members are joining up: Messrs Moon. Scott. Emmerson, J. Thompson. Westwood and Samuels. On behalf l of the club I would like to thank the; ladies for their help in the past sea-] son. and the scorer. Mr. Banks, lor, the work he did. Wo would like to I express our appreciation of the grqundsman’s work on the wicket, and

also that of the Borough in cutting the outfield, the Press for publicity, and all others who assisted the game in any way. The election of officers resulted: — Patron, Dr. H. S. Ray; president, Mr. W. Rapley; vice-presidents, Messrs A. Adams, J. Ryan, C. L. Kettle, F. FI. Denton, E. Warnes, T. P. Ryan, H. Ryan, J. McFarlane, J. McGrath, W. Rothwell. W. McCaffrey, W. Reddington, G. Kear, R. Packer, C. WLthell and Mrs. I. E. Coffey; hon. secretary and treasurer, Mr. G. F. Howes; club captain, Mr. L. Lindley; delegates to W.C.C.A., Messrs Lindley and L. Coffey: committee, Messrs Baird, Coffey, Lindley, Howes, Rapley, Newton, McGrath and Joseph; selectors, Mr. G F. Howes and captains of teams.

Subscriptions were fixed at £1 for players over 21 years and 10/- for those under 2Uyears.
