TO-DAY’S RACING NEWS

Galloping MEETINGS TO COME September 21, 23 —Geraldine. September 23 —Marton. September 30—Otaki-Maori. September 30—Kurow. September 30, October 2 —Ohinemuri iasy Money: Protests have been lodged by clubs igainst the loss of the' rebate, but here is an opinion abroad that the ax on revenue of racing' will not end here (says a Dunedin writer). Icold: The Myosotis-Berate filly Scold was low away in her race at Ashburton. >he made up a lot of ground and may >e worthy of note. She had seven tarts as a two-year-old, with a second nd a third among them. :ebate Protest: At a meeting of the committee of re Geraldine Racing Club, it was unnimously agreed to protest strongly > the Government against the abolion of the 1 per cent, rebate on the atalisator turnover.

ne to Watch: Saccone (by Surveyor) showed igns of redeeming the promise he has hown by his close third to Foxtoon id Gamos at Avondale yesterday. He lould bear keeping in mind for early istance hack races. leeveless: The three-year-old Valkyrian filly, leeveless, was the medium of strong upport at Foxton on Saturday, and le duly materialised. She won one ice as a two-year-old in four starts, he is evidently a smart youngster, s she defeated a useful field. Veil Related: The Avondale Stakes winner Lovals is by the Australian horse Vaals rom Lomint, and is a full sister to almint. Vaals was a fine performer i the Commonwealth, and Lomint as a Cornwall Handicap and other ood races to her credit.' mart Gelding: Kahui registered a walk-away win t .the Foxton meeting in June, and ackers were waiting for his reappearnce on that course on Saturday. Alidugh not tuned up, the Colossus elding again spreadeagled the field, nd he should win many races this eason. , "ohunga’s Success: The Durban Gold Cup of £2,500, wo miles, has been won by Tohunga Posterity-Impetuous), who was ought for South Africa by Sir Joseph :obinson. Tohunga is -a full brother o Elanage. 'oung Hurdler: Colonel French, who won the Couny Hurdles at Ashburton, is barely our years old. Few horses of this ,ge race over obstacles, and it is rare or one to win so early in the season, lolonel French, who is owned by lessrs. Hazlett, of Invercargill, is by he Irish horse Colonel Cygnus.

Zletal Bird: The Weathervane gelding Metal 3ird, pulled up after the Couhty lurdles at Ashburton, as if it would ie a fruitless task to gttempt to train im for another race (says an exhange); Metal Bird races in the colurs of Mr. J. J. Anisy, junr., of Greylouth. • l Wardress: Wardress looked bright and well, nd was fancied for the Penscroft lack Handicap, at Ashburton, but 9.9 iroved beyond her, and the best she sould do was a fair fourth. She was jiving Prudent Prince 291 b, Shanghai Jly 321 b, and Knight Commander !81b, so that the top-weight put up a jood performance to get near them. Jlen Connell: The well-bred Glen Connell (Surveyor—Lady Lucille-) is evidently loming right with age and experience. \s a two-year-old, the colt was unilaced in his 10 starts, but he ran in,o the places twice at the Avondale neeting which concluded yesterday. )n his breeding, he should do well Dver plenty of ground. mproved: Bit o’ Blue, owned by Mr. T. P. Lalor, of Greymouth, showed improved form in running third in the hurdle -ace at Ashburton on Saturday, and nay soon repay in part at least the time and money expended on lus education. as a jumper. He is bred to win races over the battens, as- he is by Sky Blue from Valmai, by Vdlkyrian. Foxtoon: The three-year-old gelding, Foxtoon, who won the New- Lynn Handicap at Avondale yesterday, is by Foxbridge from Mairetoon. As a. two-year-old he ran one second (to Fils de Vaals in a handicap at Ellerslie), in eight starts. He was finishing on last season, after slow beginnings, and should win more races over other than sprint courses, now- that lie has struck winning form.

Turned-in Foot: The Bulandshar— -Clemency filly, Indore, winner of the classic for two-year-olds at W’anganui, is not lacking in size or quality and has a good turn of speed. Some who looked her over took exception to one of her forefeet, but it should not be forgotten that a colt who was passed in at the yearling sales because he had a pronounced turned-in forefoot was Ammon Ba, winner of £26,000.

Disdain Resumes: Disdain made a reappearance at Foxton on Saturday, and although paiad“d in robust condition, she was responsible for some smart, galloping for part of the journey in her race. Disdain's last start in New Zealand was in the Railway Handicap, which c-ho won from Smoke Screen, when in receipt of 221 b. She subsequently raced six times in Australia, in ' which she did not run up .to her New Zealand form, though she ran a a third, and a fourth. gallops at riccarton. [special to “stab.” J RICCARTON, September 19. Herses engaged at the Geraldine meeting, except those who raced at Ashburton on Saturday, provided most of the interest to-day. The most impressive gallops weic credited to the stable-mates, Roy Bun and Skvrena. The former gave Cape
