HIS MAJESTY’S TRIBUTE

WORK OF CIVIL SERVICE. [BY CABLE —PRESS ASSN. —COPYBIGHT.] (Recd. September 7,11.35 a.m.) LONDON, September 6. His Majesty has sent the following message to Mr. Chamberlain: “In spite of our hopes and endeavours, we have been compelled to resort to war. In this grave crisis in the country’s fortunes, I wish to recognise the unremitting efforts of the members of my Civil Service at Home and overseas, through the troubled years behind, both in promoting peace and preparing the country for the emergency now confronting us. Your work, which has earned the gratitude of your fellowcitizens, will I know be carried on in the same spirit, until peace is restored.”
