’PLANES OVER PARIS
RAIDERS DRIVEN OFF. [by CABLE —PBESS ASSN. —COPYBIGHT.] NEW YORK .September 5. The Paris correspondent of the Associated Press of America states that several aeroplanes, presumably German, flew over the city at 3.14 a.m. They were met by anti-aircraft fire and flares were sent aloft. The explosions were not heard in the centre of the city. It is offlcialy explained that a fleet of German planes crossed the frontier at 10,000 feet. They apparently came to photograph troop concentrations, and then they swung towards Paris, but French chasers drove off the attackers and pursued them into Germany. After the air-raid warning the populace went to the shelters in perfect order, good-naturedly, and without
undue hurry. Consequent on the boring experiences of last night they carried books, playing cards, and even crime thrillers. Everyone is trying to arrange for greater comfort in the event of the alarms becoming nightly. Occupants of the shelters, from all classes, are developing a great camaraderie. Le Havre had two alarms during daylight, this being the farthest west penetration of German scouting planes. RAID ON BERLIN REPORTED. MONTREAL, September 6. A London message states that the Government wireless reported that Berlin was subjected to an air-raid at 6 a.m: to-day. The advice was received here at 7.5 a.m. ITALIAN SHELTERS DISMANTLED. ROME, September 6. Workmen are now dismantling the air-raid shelters here.
