DOG DRINKS PORT

THRIVES ON SPIRITUOUS DIET. A dog that was rescued from death by port wine has for four years thrived on intoxicating drink, says “The Sunday Chronicle.” Rex, a cross between a whippet and a fox terrier, was bought for 5/- four years ago by Ronnie Johnson, of West Kirby, who, now at the age of 15, is a champion boy horse rider, winner of trophies at Olympia. Ths dog was run over by a bicycle, had two ribs damaged, and was on the point of death, when Ronnie, alone in tile bouse with his pet, poured some ' port wine down its throat. ;

The animal rallied and from that I day has aever looked back. He took! to his medicine greedily, and, getting, steadily through bottle after bottle, soon regained his normal strength. '

■ “He is unable to digest solid food.” 'fluid Ronnie, “and for four years his ; diet has consisted of port wine, brandy, milk, and halibut oil. He was so fond of his port wine that twice before I knew exactly how much he could stand the poor little chap was drunk.

“There is such an understanding be tween us since I nursed him back tc health,” added Ronnie, “that I can teach him alulost any trick —except when he has just heard the ‘plop’ of a new-drawn cork. I can’t get him to concentrate then.”
