CENTENNIAL VISITORS
AUSTRALIAN PROSPECTS [per press association.] AUCKLAND, August 21. Prospects for Centennial tourist traffic from Australia to New Zealand were discussed by Mr. R. J. Mitchell, a director and Sydney manager of the Australian and Overseas Travel Service Proprietary, Ltd., who arrived from Sydney by the Monterey. His visit to the main Dominion centres during the next few weeks will be devoted to making arrangements for Australian visitors for the centennial. “It is a bit too early to make an accurate estimate of the number of Australians who are likely to join New Zealanders i.n. their celebrations,” said Mr. Mitchell. “However, from the number of inquiries we are always receiving, I would say that many a full ship will come this way in 1940. In itself New Zealand is a place worth while visiting; but the added attraction of the Centennial is likely to interest many more potential tourists.” Mr. Mitchell said there were some Australians who were hesitant about booking for New Zealand because of the monetary question; Many false im-
pressions were gained by hearing the stories of such people; but when they were informed that they could bring as much as they desired, spend what they could, and return with the rest they seemed satisfied. A tribute to the fine advertisement New Zealand had in its Government Tourist Bureau in Australia was paid by Mr. Mitchell. He said it was a model of efficiency, capably staffed, and a department of which the Dominion could feel justly proud.
