LEAGUE FOOTBALL

INANGAHUA MATCHES. A large crowd attended at the Reefton Racecourse on Sunday, when Waratahs and Kiwis met in the second round of the Flannigan Cup. The day was line and the match was interesting throughout. The Kiwi forwards outplayed their opponents and held the clever Waratah backs in check. At half-time the score was Kiwi 8 (tries by McMahon and P. Brazil, one converted by McKenzie), Waratahs 5 (try by Donaldson converted by Scott). Soon after the commencement of the second spell, T. Brazil dummied his way over for a good try. McKenzie converted and Kiwis led by 13 to 5. Waratahs pressed for a long time, and eventually Bissett scored and Scott converted with a tine kick. Some torrid forward play was witnessed, with Waratahs striving to equalise, but the Kiwi defence held, and the final score was: Kiwi 13, Waratahs 10. Mr. C. McElwee was referee.

INANGAHUA CENTRE. Owing to the fact that many prominent players were unable to obtain the necessary leave, the Auckland Rugby League had reluctantly decided to cancel the southern tour, was the advice received at the weekly meeting of the Management Committee of the Inangahua Rugby League, when Mr. C. Coxall presided. Other members present, were Messrs M. Blom E. Riley, R. Irving. C. Hinton, R. Chandler, and T. McKenzie (secretary). The secretary advised that Auckland had been again communicated with, and there was still the possibility of Auckland paying a visit to Reefton and Greymouth. If it was still found that a representative team was unavailable, every endeavour would be made to have a visit from a leading Auckland club team. Mr. 11. Steel, manager of the representative team, which played in Greymouth on August 13. forwarded his report. The report was received as satisfactory. Air H. Wilson. West Coast delegate on the New Zealand Rugby League, forwarded a copy of his report on matters pertaining to the New Zealand team, and was accorded a vote of thanks. Discussion took place on the proposed visit to Wellington, and it was decided that the secretary endeavotu to finalisd arrangements as soon as possible. An attempt will also be made to extend the tour further north, if possible. It was decided to hold a meeting oi tiio Social Committee at an early date. The following fixtures were drawn for this week-end: —

Senior (Flannigan Cup): Waratahs v. Waiuta, at Reefton, 2.30 (H Morris). Grey Valley v. Kiwis, at Ikamatua, at 2.30 (I. E. Scott). The matter of lower grade fixtures was held over until later in the week.
