WIVES DROWNED

MIDNIGHT SEA TRIP. MILFORD HAVEN, July 16. A policeman patrolling near the docks at midnight smiled when he saw two women and a sturdy young man going towards the slipway. That meant that Skipper Riby and Skipper Bennett were due to come in from trawling. Their wives, next door neighbours, always went out to meet the trawlers in a motor boat piloted by Mrs. Bennett’s son. The policeman walked on. The wind was blowing strongly. So strongly that he did not hear the cries as the dinghy in which the women were being rowed out to theii motor boat was suddenly overturned. When the two skippers returned to port soon after dawn they learned why their wives had not come to welcome them. The bodies had just been recoveroxl. Mrs. Annie Beatrice Riby was 37. She leaves three young children. Mrs. Winifred Alice Bennett, who was 44, lived next door to Mrs. Riby in Shakespeare Avenue. She leaves a srrown-up family. Thomas John McDougall, aged 22. who was drowned with them, was her son by her first marriage. ,
